Privately circulated in 1954, this account of the Closeburn Kirkpatricks was, the author says, "a story that needed to be told". "I have come into possession of, or have access to, a considerable number of important family documents which have remained uncollated. I have felt it my duty therefore to try to bring this history up to date, by referring to these and other available records for the benefit of my children and grand-children." The Kirkpatricks of Closeburn, in Dumfries-shire, Scotland, trace their family back to Ivone, who witnessed a Charter for Robert Brus (or Bruce),first Lord of Annandale. Roger ‘mak siccar ’ Kirkpatrick was a close associate of the later Robert Bruce, who became King of Scotland.
